When you are an alien with a head shaped like a giant taco of course you form an intergalactic rock band and tour the universe, who wouldn’t? Punk Taco is a fun all ages romp that I think kids as well as adults will enjoy.

The story follows Punk Taco and his friends, the Punk Taco Band, are waiting around after one of their shows. Punk Taco decides he wants to make Nachos (what else do tacos eat?) and heads out to the store to get the ingredients. On the way he makes a new friend and then get’s captured by a group of intergalactic squirrels who want to steal his nacho recipe. Finally Punk Taco confronts the evil King Boogar, and defeats him with the power of music (and love).

It’s truly a fun and creative story that offers many lessons about inclusiveness, friendship and being a good person. And it does it in a fun way that doesn’t come off as preachy or talks down to the reader. This is definitely a must read for the young person in your life.

The art of Punk Taco is fun, creative and well executed. I love that the characters are all aliens and it gives the artist Gabriel Mayorga the freedom to be fun and creative with the characters. Colors are also well execute with enough contrast that the images pop and will attract even the the most critical of audiences, kids. The style of this book is perfect for any saturday morning cartoon. I can’t say enough good things about the look of Punk Taco.

My only real criticism of the book is that there is too much story, and at times is a bit wordy. That might sound odd, but having raised 2 kids, one that also studied early childhood psychology, I know must kids have a short attention span. I know that I would have a hard time to get a young kid to read this or sit long enough for me to read it too them. But to be fair I am talking young children. I believe an 8 – 11 year old would love this story. It’s a small criticism, and it’s really only fault I can find with it. My suspicion is that Adam Wallenta wasn’t sure if he’d get the opportunity to do a volume 2, so he got all his ideas out while he could. To that I would say to Adam, it’s a strong fun story, you should be able to do this book for a long time to come.

So my final rating for Punk Taco is a solid 8 out of 10 capes. A truly enjoyable story for kids and parents alike, and even those with a kid inside them that love nachos! I highly recommend this book and for more info and to get your copy visit: http://www.adamwallenta.com/store/comic-books/punk-taco/
