The United Earth Forces has received a “Message in a bottle” from the Robotech Expeditionary Force of the future. This message warns that the Invid are plundering all realities of it’s protoculture in order to grow a new flower of life. The message was received 10 years to late, but there may still be time to stop the Invid and their nefarious plans.

The story is of Robotech Event Horizon is a clever spin on the universal threat troupe that we are all familiar with. There are a lot of characters and previous story, but this book does a good job of laying all that out for you in some reference pages. There is a heavy amount of action in this book, but don’t expect it all to be Robot on Robot action. A lot of the action is centered around the various crew members of the SDF-1. Don’t worry though, we do get some cool Robotech robot on robot actions, it just isn’t the focus. The story itself can be hard to follow early in the story, but it does become clearer as you continue your reading. It can be difficult to determine what is import and what is not. The location and time jumps can also be difficult to follow, but as I just stated it does get better in the later parts of the story.

I like the artwork a lot. I think it really fits the tone of this books well. It’s seems like there is an extensive color palette which makes it easier to follow the battle scenes. The drawing is done well so that it adds to the fact that there is a lot going on, but it is easy to understand the actions of the characters.

I enjoyed this book a lot. It was just hard to understand in the first couple of issues as it seems we are being dropped in the middle of a larger event. It is worth noting that we are in fact being immersed into this universe that has already had a great deal of development. If you love the classic Robotech anime or previous comic books, then you are going to love Robotech Event Horizon. Overall, I give Robotech Event Horizon 8 capes out of 10. Enjoy!
