Dr Eggman was thought to be reformed and no longer a threat, but he has just released a metal virus on Sonic and his crew as well as the population at large. It’s a metal zombie apocalypse! Sonic has been infected as well, but his speed is helping to keep the virus at bay. Will Sonic and the rest of the heroes be able to stop the spread of the Dr Eggman’s metal virus?!

The story does a good job of letting you know just how desperate the situation is. It has a nice pacing, so you really come to understand the struggle that the heroes are going through. Sonic and the others must prevent themselves from being infected at the same time they are also trying to help survivors escape the city and the metal virus that is plaguing it. I enjoyed the story and really started to feel for the tough situation of the characters and heroes of the story. This book throws a lot of characters at you which can be a bit of a drag if you have not been following the Sonic comics. To its credit, it does try to give you a good display of their character, so you at least understand who they are and what they are about. They use each other’s names quite a lot which is good if you’re a newcomer like me, but it may be annoying for those that are familiar with the characters already. The only major complaint I have with the story is that it does not have a satisfying conclusion, if you can even call it that.

The artwork is consistent and clean. Just enough detail and shadow with great coloring. Some of the flooring, walls and backgrounds lack detail, but its not the focus so you hardly notice. It looks very much like the Sonic games and Sonic animated series which is a plus. There was only one panel that made me do a double take in order to understand what just happened.

Overall, I give Sonic The Hedgehog Crisis City 7 capes out of 10. It is well done and entertaining, it just didn’t give a good payoff which is a trend in today’s industry that I just don’t like.
