The police find a dead superhero sidekick dead and decayed, but since it’s a superhero matter, they report it thusly to the Coalition of Heroes. Matilda “Rep-tilly” Anderson has just been accepted into the COH’s apprentice program and is assigned to the most power and popular superhero in the COH. The problem is not only is she rewarded with a hero’s busy work, but it also turns out these heroes may no be as virtuous as they are made out to be.

So, let us get the elephant out of the room. The plot of this story so far is very similar to the “The Boys” TV series. There are of course differences, but in the end it’s a story of an aspiring superhero finding out that the world is not black and white. The COH, much like The Seven is just a bunch of a holes. Rep-tilly confronts Pillar who is the leader of the COH, who explains that bad things must be done to save the world. Putting aside the similarities this story has with The Boys TV show, I like the way the main character is written, She is virtuous and you really feel bad for her when the world that she thought she knew, starts to crumble. Even though I do not consider this to be an original idea, I am interested to see what happens next in Rep-Tily’s adventure.

The artwork is well done. The inking is very clean, and the colors popped, there is a few panels where images are contorted for emphasis and the more characters in the panel, the less details we get. Overall, the art is easy to look at and understand. The images are clear and do a good job of telling the visual story.

I will give Villainous part 1 8 capes out of 10. The only thing bad I can say about it, is that is very much parallels the concept of The Boys TV show. I am personally not a fan of superhero deconstruction, but it is still a good book and I interested to see how it develops.
