The Doctor and her crew are enjoying a parade on an alien planet, when suddenly she is arrested for stealing a powerful gem. Funny thing is, that she didn’t steal it, but she has an idea of who might have done it. She escapes her confines to search out this old frenemy of hers who she suspects is the culprit. She indeed finds this old frenemy and the stolen gem. Her frenemy just so happens to be a space pirate with her own Tardis named Corsair. Corsair is able convince the Doctor and her crew to help her steal something else for a good cause.

The story is charming in how it does it’s best to display how competent the Doctor is. Her crew is equaling charming in their one liners. They give us an earthling prospective to all the weird wacky alien stuff that his happening all around them. The story is indeed quaint, but I does not give a good sense of why the Doctor and her crew are suddenly following the direction of a frenemy space pirate. This does make you feel like Corsair could pull the rug out from under them at any moment. I will leave it up to you to find out if this happens.

The artwork is good. Everything is nice a clean just the way I like it. The colors are done well. They are bright and give everything a flashy feel. My one complaint about the artwork is that the artist seems to struggle with certain facial expressions. This only happens in about 4 panels, but it is very noticeable.

Overall I found this book to be entertaining and you never new what was going to happen next. I was certainly on the edge of my seat and wondering if the Doctor made a wise choice in following her old frenemy into adventure. I give Doctor Who the Thirteenth Doctor Volume 3 7 capes out of 10.
