Al Simmons has destroyed the hierarchy of heaven and hell and now they have aligned. To make matters worse, Al Simmons Spawn is not at 100% power and old enemies seem to be rising a new. In the process of this review I gain consulting from a Spawn fan boy. I did this because, even though I do not follow the Spawn comics I knew this was important.

The writing of this issue is top notch. Every scene reveals details that have extraordinary weight. The comic starts with a chilling, yet sly reference to our present-day situation. We get great scenes that do a spectacular job of introducing us into the current situation in the Spawn story line. A Spawn regular will be very excited after reading this comic. The revelations are many and hint at a grander scale event. A casual reader will not appreciate the details as much, but it still reads very well. You can understand the situation rather well and will not be completely lost. The comic does a great job of giving direct reference to help you understand. So, it may very well compel you to research and read, which is not so bad.

The artwork is great. Very consistent with what you would expect from a Spawn comic. The images are draw with the perfect amount of detailing. The colors are awesome, they pop when they need to and tone down when necessary. The dark scenes are also done masterfully. It avoids overshading or images that are hard to see in the dark. The comic is full of awesome Spawn pose pieces that you can truly enjoy. The art team does a great job of being striking and subtle in perfect proportion.

When I asked my Spawn expert if they had complaints, they had very little. The one complaint was that there was not a lot of gore in this issue. They did state that it can be overlooked as this is clearly a set up and was very very exciting.

All things considered; I give Spawn #311 10 capes out of 10! That is right! The big 10. The artwork is simply wonderful and hits all the checkpoints. The writing is awesome and suspenseful even if you do not follow the story so far. The long time Spawn readers will simply love that every scene, brings some sort of awesome revelation. Make sure to pick this one up!
