In a post-apocalyptic world where humanoid animals exist lives a humanoid rat by the name of Solo. He is tough and hunts for his colony so they can eat. He lives a life of discipline and routine with his love Lyra, until Lyra’s old friend comes to the colony and stays. This causes Solo to be jealous and leave. The world is a dangerous place with Humans and other Humanoid animals hunting for food, but this is a journey that Solo feels compelled to take.

Oscar Martin’s story is intriguing and interesting. It makes you want to learn more about the world this story takes place in. The problem is that it does not, perhaps it is expected that I would be more familiar with the world. Instead, we follow the main rat Solo through his adventure. He leaves his colony, finds some old friends then realizes he should go back to his love, only to find out something horrible happened to the colony before he returned. It just feels like a lot of wheel spinning and even at the end, it is hard to understand what the story was meaning to accomplish. Maybe the moral is that you should stay with the people you love instead of going solo in a world of darkness. Not sure who needs to know that, but okay.

The artwork is good with clean lines, good details and shading that is done very well. My complaint is that the colors do not seem to pop off the page and excite me. The images just seem flat and bland, like they are just doing the job and nothing more. Perfectly serviceable, but for a comic you want it to pop and this one does not.

Overall, I give Solo the Survivors of Chaos 2 5 capes out of 10. I just did not get gripped by the story and the artwork is just okay.
