The Undertaker grew up in a morgue until his brother Kane burnt it down and killed his parents. A new mentor Paul Bearer takes him in after the death of his family and manipulates the Undertaker to fight for Paul Bearers gain. See the Undertaker go through his illustrious career in the WWE and see who will be there to try and knock the dead man down!

Okay, so I am a huge Undertaker fan. I may no longer follow wrestling, but back in the 80s and 90s, it was my jam. My first sight of the Undertaker at survivor series had me hooked. When the Undertaker’s brother came on scene, I was double hooked. Those were great times in wrestling, because of the great stories and the mythical men that made them possible. That is the reason I was so let down by this comic. I wanted to see a mythical and dark story of the Undertaker. I wanted to see more flavor to the character that we could not get from the in-ring action. The story started well with the telling of the events that killed his parents and how he came under the service of Paul Bearer. It quickly morphed into a simplistic re-telling of his wrestle career. The action was cool, but it isn’t anything that you can’t already look up on YouTube or the WWE app.

The artwork is good for the most part until you get into the four section of the book. The fourth book just has weird artwork that is not at all consistent with the rest of the book or anything else for that matter. The artwork in the section just didn’t look anything like the subject matter. That is a real big miss considering all the cool visuals that the Undertaker has to offer. This is even more so when you consider the supernatural element that has basically been ignored in this comic.

Being a fan of this subject matter, I feel really disappointed. I not sure why they took such a cool character and downgraded his story. I would expect a comic book to expand on a cool idea like the Undertaker, not do its best to ground it in reality. Overall, I give Undertaker 3 capes out of 10.
